FSA Council: Membership & Nurture
FSA Council is made up of chairs of all of its committees and meets once a month.
You can have a hand in how the church is run.
Do you have a naturally outgoing and welcoming nature? Do find the times you spend serving others to be rewarding and pleasurable? Is nurturing a part of who you are? Then this committee has many functions (see below) that you might be interested in.
This committee is responsible for encouraging those with an interest to join FSA and enter fully into the communion of the United Church. To this end, it is responsible for planning the special aspects of the church services which go with committing to membership. It also ensures that an updated database is available regarding membership referenced to the stated interests of our members in participating in the various works of the church. The following is a listing of the subcommittees that report to M & N.
Those who feel a need for prayer regarding themselves or family or friends are asked to contact the church secretary who, in turn, will pass the information on to members of the Prayer Chain. Confidentiality is always respected and first names only will be used unless permission has been given to use the full name.
"Caring Callers" was initiated to reach out primarily but not exclusively to our shut-ins. About thirty dedicated callers make an average of six calls, four times a year, August, Advent, January, and Lent (Easter). Some people are called more often, if necessary, and not all members are called. Shut-ins, young families, people who are pre-operative, post-operative, those in need of support, all are kept up-to-date on church services, concerts and special activities.
The callers are also a very valuable liaison for the ministers and the office regarding illness, moves, and other problems.
More "callers" are always needed and if you would like to share in this very special program, contact Annabelle Logan at 519-471-2518.
Congregational Visiting Team
Our Congregational Visiting Team is comprised of members who offer ongoing support to our shut-ins. There are about 30 people involved who maintain contact with identified members of the congregation on a regular basis, especially at birthdays and holiday times. If you are interested in becoming involved in this very rewarding experience, please call the church office.
Coffee & Conversation Convenors
Every Sunday, following our 10:30 a.m. worship service, the congregation is invited to remain for refreshment and the deepening of church friendships. In the summer we substitute coffee for "Lemonade on the Lawn." Volunteers are needed to make and serve coffee or lemonade and to clean up. Please contact the church office if you would like to help out.
There is a counselling service available to FSA members staffed voluntarily by Jo Ann Silcox, a psychiatrist, who provides initial assessment and follow-through counselling for individuals, couples, families or groups facing personal crises. You may contact her at 519-642-2152.
Care for the Caregiver
This group is for those who find themselves in the role of caregiver and who, at least at times, are feeling somewhat overwhelmed. The group meets the fourth Monday evening of each month in the Parlour. Please contact Jo Ann Silcox 519-642-2152 for further details.
This section of M & N looks for ways to welcome visible and invisible minorities into our community and encourage them to make the kind of contribution to FSA life that feels right for them.
This section programs and activities to encourage the participation of and outreach to the LGBTQ community and to ensure that FSA is compliant with its pledge emodied in our "Affirming Congregation" status within the United Church of Canada. Read more. . .
The committee meets quarterly on a Wednesday in the evening or at the call of the chair. Members who participate on the subcommittees spend extra time fulfilling their various functions.
