FSA Council: United Church Women
FSA Council is made up of chairs of all of its committees and meets once a month.
You can have a hand in how the church is run.
Are you a woman who enjoys working with teams of like-minded individuals and gets a spiritual lift out of working often behind the scenes, to make a project fly? This could be the spot for you. If you are interested in the Church's mission both in Canada and around the world, you would feel right at home here. Being part of the UCW ensures that you are quickly integrated into the very centre of the FSA family.
The UCW welcomes and encourages all women at FSA to become members of the UCW and to help keep up the good work in the years ahead.
The purpose of the UCW is to unite women of the congregation for the total mission of the Church and to provide a medium through which they may express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship and service.
We schedule monthly meetings, usually on a Wednesday afternoon, for worship, fellowship and to hear speakers on various toics of interest. Each year many other women of the congregation step up when the need arises and support the special projects of the UCW, such as the Holly Bazaar and Rummage Sale.
The fruits of our fund-raising efforts go toward a variety of philanthropic projects both within the church and around the world through Mission and Services of the UCC.
Below is just a sampling of our activities (inquire from the president of the UCW for more)
The Bazaar held each November, uses the creative gifts of everyone to stock the gourmet table, the bake table, the craft table, Christmas gift boutique and the Cafe Noel, where we provide refreshments to tired shoppers. It is the biggest fund-raiser for the UCW. The French Cafe and Artisans' Alley featuring local crafts-people are new features.
The Sewing Group meets Wednesdays at 9:30am from spring until the bazaar in November. Everyone who is interested in doing hand and machine sewing, cutting and stuffing is welcome. The group prepares items for sale at the Holly Bazaar. Bring a lunch. Coffee is provided.
The rummage sale offers church members a place to recycle clothing, kitchenware, books, etc. which still have use for others. The sales also offer the community a shopping bonanza for good merchandise at an affordable price. Usually held in April, the date for the rummage sale is published well in advance in the Church bulletin so that you can plan your donations and also set aside the date to come and buy.
The UCW Wednesday Morning Unit invites interested ladies to join the UCW Marathon Bridge group. Friendly, non-competitive games are played once a month, from October to May with each partner hostessing twice during the season. We welcome new bridge players. To include your name and be part of fun and fellowship with friends, please contact: Joni Pypka: 519-681-6900 or email her.
The group usually meets on a Wednesday afternoon once a month. The UCW women as a collective meet twice a year for fellowship, inspiration and special business, usually in November and May. Watch for announcements of meetings and projects in the Bulletin and in our email blast, This Week at FSA.
Special projects such as the Bazaar and the Rummage Sale require commitment outside of these times.
To get information about membership contact the president of the UCW, Laurel Kenney or the church office.
